For photographer Cynthia Henebry, the true gift of her work is the moment of connection between her and the person she is photographing. The picture that comes of it is a bonus. Cynthia's intuitive work explores the complexity of childhood - the loneliness and worry as well as the sweetness and adventure.
“I learn so much from the pictures after I take them. . . . You think you’re taking the picture for one reason and then your unconscious is letting in all these other details. . . . With the picture of Mavis, all of the moments in my life leading up to that moment and all of the moments in her life leading up to that moment inform that picture. And then the picture happens, and then you move on. . . . There’s something that I need to see in the world that photography can reflect back to me. For me, it keeps reflecting it back to me until I really see it and really accept it and take it into me and then it can kind of intermingle in me and then — art to me is the process of returning it to the world. ”
